2023 Billion Dollar Roundtable Best Practices Summit: Inductees
AMAZON.COM INC.
Q: When and why did your
company start its supplier diversity program?
A: Our SDI [supplier, diversity and inclusion] vision is
to engage with certified diverse-owned or small businesses to drive economic
impact in communities we serve. We strive to support growth, innovation and
sustainability among our diverse suppliers to build a more diverse supply chain
that better reflects the diversity of our customers and the communities we
serve.
Q: What is the
significance of your company being inducted into the Billion Dollar Roundtable
Inc. (BDR)?
A: Our ability to innovate on behalf of our customers
relies on the perspectives and knowledge of people from all backgrounds. We
think bigger, bolder and better when we have diverse perspectives across our
teams, partners and suppliers. While there’s more SDI work to do, we are proud of
our progress and honored to be welcomed as a new member of the Billion Dollar
Roundtable. It’s a testament to our focus in this area, and the expertise of
our supplier partners.
Q: What advice would you
give companies aspiring to earn BDR membership?
A: Becoming a BDR member is a tremendous honor, and our
team is proud of this accomplishment. Our goal has and will continue to be
ensuring an inclusive supply base. We have relied on a cross-functional team to
build this program — not just procurement. We use data in every thing we do —
from tracking progress to measuring economic impact — and we use a variety of
strategies to proactively seek out diverse suppliers, including working with
advocacy agencies, attending conferences and searching on social media.
Q: What is your company’s
spend goal with diverse suppliers over the next five years?
A: We are committed to inclusively utilizing certified
small or diverse-owned enterprises globally to create growth, opportunity and
impact for these businesses by reflecting the diversity of our customers and
the communities we serve.
Our vision is to build a
Global SDI Program that benefits communities where we operate and enables
long-term economic sustainability for our employees, customers and society.
