Benjamin joins Humana Foundation from Eli Lilly and Co.

Accomplished nonprofit leader to usher Humana Foundation into future as it advances health equity

The Humana Foundation, philanthropic arm of Humana Inc., recently announced the appointment of Tiffany Benjamin as its CEO, effective Jan. 3, 2022.

Benjamin comes to the Humana Foundation from Eli Lilly and Co., where she serves as president of the Lilly Foundation and senior director, social impact. She manages the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts, disaster relief efforts, global health initiatives, environmental, social and governance strategy,  and community civic engagement. In 2020, Benjamin led Lilly’s global philanthropic efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as its philanthropic efforts to address racial inequity in the United States.

“Our board of directors is excited to introduce a leader of Tiffany’s caliber to help guide the strategic direction of the Humana Foundation while continuing a legacy of supporting organizations that do indispensable work in our communities,” said Bruce D. Broussard, president and CEO of Humana, and chairman of the Humana Foundation board of directors. “She brings a strong sense of purpose and deep strategic perspective to engaging our communities and accelerating best health outcomes for all.”

Her deep experience will be invaluable at the Foundation, which last month celebrated its 40th anniversary as a philanthropic advocate for health and well-being and a champion for health equity. In this role, Benjamin will help the Foundation pioneer new ways to co-create healthy communities, sustain advances in health outcomes, and eliminate unjust differences in health and health care, in particular among the vulnerable senior population. She brings a strong understanding of the social determinants of health and a passion for closing systemic gaps in education and employment, wealth and financial security, social connectedness, and food security.

While at Lilly, Benjamin served in various roles within the legal function from 2013-2018, including Assistant General Counsel, Assistant Corporate Secretary; and anti-corruption counsel. Prior to joining Lilly, Benjamin served as Senior Investigative Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee. She has a law degree from Harvard Law School and an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Political Science from Indiana University.

Benjamin serves on the boards of the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, the Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy, the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and the 2024 NBA All Star Game Committee. She was the recipient of the 2021 Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Young Alumni Award and the 2021 United Way of Central Indiana Exceptional Executive Award.

Her skills will complement and expand upon Humana’s commitment to collaborating with local partners and investing in scalable and innovative models that demonstrably enhance health and well-being, especially in Humana’s Bold Goal communities. Under her leadership, the Foundation will further improve the quality of life and the quality of place in the communities we all serve.

“I’m honored to join The Humana Foundation and raise its focus on health equity, especially at such a pivotal time in our country,” said Benjamin. “The Foundation and Humana Inc. have worked hard to assemble innovative partners and initiatives across the country and I’m eager to join them in their goal of helping communities across the U.S. and in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.”
