When Oncor
Electric Delivery Co. LLC executives looked at its projected growth and
long-term plans, they knew the company needed expanded supply chain capacity,
but more importantly, suppliers who could meet evolving industry needs.
To help
build a stronger, more resilient supply chain, Oncor is launching the Building
Opportunities & Leading Transformation (BOLT) program. Designed to empower
small and diverse businesses, the initiative connects them with the tools,
training and expertise needed to compete successfully for contracts with major
corporations and government entities.
Partnering
with the Blue Wave Supplier Development Program, Oncor will host a three-month
cohort program designed to equip 25 to 30 high-potential suppliers with the
resources and strategic insight needed to thrive in large-scale procurement
environments.
The Blue
Wave Supplier Development Program, created by the Blue Wave International SDP
Corp., aids small and mid-sized businesses in understanding international
standards and business requirements used by major corporations and government
entities during the supplier selection process.
Bridging
gaps in supplier readiness
Oncor’s
projected growth over the coming years created a clear need for greater
supplier capacity across multiple categories, said Grace Hastings, the electric
utility’s supplier diversity manager. While many small and diverse businesses
are well-prepared to compete, others need additional support to meet evolving
requirements.
“BOLT was
created to bridge the gap,” she said. “The program ensures suppliers have the
tools they need to grow while also helping Oncor build a more resilient supply
chain that benefits our customers and the communities we serve.”
The program
focuses on key areas such as business continuity planning, cybersecurity
readiness, sustainability, and environmental, social and governance (ESG)
strategies, quality control systems and overall growth preparedness. By
strengthening these capabilities, BOLT aims to help suppliers prepare for new
and emerging opportunities.
“By
strengthening small and diverse suppliers, Oncor aims to help fuel innovation,
expand opportunities and positively impact local economies in the communities
we serve,” Hastings said.
To launch
the BOLT initiative, Oncor hosted two major outreach events in July. Nearly 500
suppliers attended each event, engaging with Oncor’s business units, connecting
with prime suppliers and exploring new avenues for collaboration. Feedback was
overwhelmingly positive, with strong interest in both the BOLT program and the
upcoming Blue Wave cohort, Hastings said.
The
Oncor-sponsored Blue Wave cohort will be supported not only by Blue Wave but
also by several of Oncor’s prime suppliers, who are contributing to the
training and mentorship efforts. The cohort begins in September, and selected
suppliers will undergo tailored assessments, receive expert guidance and learn
how to compete for contracts with Oncor and other major corporations.
“BOLT
represents more than a supplier diversity initiative,” Hastings said. “It’s a
long-term investment in building stronger, more resilient business partners
that can help us deliver safe and reliable energy to our customers. By
equipping small and diverse suppliers with the tools to succeed, Oncor is
helping build economic opportunities that extend beyond our company.”
