Tell us a little bit about your background, including when and why you started your company.

Twice Media Productions helps brands communicate using different types of video technology that include: video marketing, virtual reality and 360 video, training videos and mobile video training, where we teach companies to shoot professional videos from their mobile devices.

Whether companies need to communicate internally for training or externally for marketing, we devise a video strategy that ensures they convey the right message to the right audience, using the right type of video technology.

I started the business after my father’s death in 2011. He owned several businesses, including an entertainment company for more than 20 years and worked as a deejay with the stage name DJ Ice. In keeping with his entrepreneurial spirit, I launched the business in 2012 and dedicated it to him by naming it Twice, combining my initials and his stage name.

What does winning this award mean to you?

I’m very deliberate and intentional about my support of Black and other minority businesses, so winning this award is particularly gratifying because I appreciate the work NMSDC does to develop and provide opportunities for diverse suppliers.

To what do you attribute your success?

I attribute my success to my support system. I have family, mentors and friends who have been there along my journey to help me become better in every aspect of my life.

As you usher in 2021, what do you see as your biggest challenges and opportunities?

I see Covid-19 as the biggest challenge and opportunity. Not knowing exactly what our new normal will look like, hits to the economy, and keeping ourselves, our teams and our loved ones safe are enormous challenges.

However, I also see opportunities to reinvent ourselves and find more efficient ways to communicate and run our businesses. As we move toward an ever-changing virtual world, we can leverage technology to innovate and offer better experiences for our clients.

What advice do you have for up-and-coming entrepreneurs?

Entrepreneurship can be very challenging. It’s important to know yourself, define success for yourself and determine your "why.” Doing so will help keep you motivated through the tough times.

You will also need to build a solid team. You can start a business alone, but you can’t scale it by yourself. Lastly, I would say educate yourself and take advantage of free resources. There are many successful people out there who’ve done what you’re trying to do. Learn from them and avoid the mistakes they’ve made.
