Chau Hoang, the visionary behind Green Metal Recycling, has always been driven by a passion for science and entrepreneurship. After graduating from Texas Christian University in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Hoang earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of North Texas in 2001. He continued with a postdoctoral fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center, investigating the role of signaling proteins in the brain involved in drug addiction. Despite his deep engagement with science, Hoang’s entrepreneurial spirit and interest in environmental issues led him to a different path.

In 2011, he took a leap of faith and founded Green Metal Recycling, based in Fort Worth, Texas.

“Seeing the growth, gaps and demand in recycling infrastructure across the Dallas-Fort Worth area inspired me to take action,” said Hoang, who has seen the area’s population grow from 700,000 to almost 1 million in just three years.

“That vision drove me to start Green Metal Recycling, and we are proud to recycle millions of pounds of metal to create a positive environmental impact and build a cleaner, greener future for the community I grew up in,” he added.

Service, sustainability, success

Green Metal Recycling operates with a core philosophy centered on providing environmentally sustainable services. The company is committed to finding the most sustainable solutions for its customers and partners, consistently striving to divert materials from landfills and maximize recovery.

“We prioritize customer service and fairness because we know customers have choices,” Hoang said. “We emphasize ethical practices and believe in equal treatment and opportunities for all employees. We encourage creativity, new ideas and risk-taking to drive progress and innovation.”

The company’s dedication to service, sustainability and innovation sets it apart from other recycling facilities. Green Metal Recycling not only offers efficient recycling solutions but also helps clients identify new revenue opportunities through responsible material recovery.

“Every challenge we encounter brings new opportunities,” Hoang said. “Whether it’s managing complex materials or improving logistics, we approach each obstacle as a chance to grow, refine our process and provide even better solutions. Our success is measured by how well we adapt and keep pushing forward.”

Green Metal Recycling has achieved significant milestones with its dedicated team. The company reduces waste in landfills by recycling an average of 80 million pounds of scrap metal annually. To sustain this level of work, Green Metal Recycling partners with other recycling companies across the country to expand their processing capacity. The company strives to increase its presence nationwide to create more jobs and lead the way in sustainable practices.

Commitment to community

Hoang’s commitment to his community extends beyond his business endeavors. He is actively involved in various charities and organizations. As a TCU alumnus, Chau has been a sponsor in charity events such as the CASA 5K run for multiple years. He is a member of the Benefactors Circle at the Amon Carter Museum and a minority business enterprise with the Dallas Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council.

Recently, he was a signature sponsor of the Council’s 2025 ACCESS Business Expo.

“It’s important to us to treat everyone with respect and integrity, as we remain focused on our mission,” he said.

Focused on the future

Green Metal Recycling’s story is one of vision, dedication and a relentless pursuit of sustainability. Through innovative solutions and a commitment to community and environmental stewardship, Hoang and his team are making a significant impact, one pound of recycled metal at a time.

“Our goal is to expand the range of materials we can recycle and become the largest and most innovative recycling facility in North Texas,” he said.

“We want to lead the way in sustainable practices and continue building a cleaner, more eco-conscious future for Texas.”
